Promonco - Online Project Management Software

The Challenge

The engineering firm Planungsgruppe IngenieuRinG had built over 20 years of project management expertise in Microsoft Access. Their system answered critical business questions that no off-the-shelf solution could: How many hours were consumed from the budget? What does each employee actually cost per hour? Which projects are running over? Who's on vacation next week? Which invoices are overdue today? The problem: existing software forced companies to choose. Good time tracking apps existed, solid HR tools were available, decent project management solutions could be found - but nothing combined them all. Every answer required switching between systems, exporting data, and manual reconciliation. With the shift to home office and distributed teams, the Access-based solution had reached its limits.

Our Solution

We performed a complete migration of the domain knowledge - not just the data, but 20+ years of refined business logic - from Microsoft Access to a modern web stack. The backend runs on Java with Spring Boot, the frontend on Angular, with MySQL as the database. Python handles data migration and automation tasks, Docker manages deployment, and extensive CI/CD pipelines ensure quality. The result is a comprehensive platform with intelligent role-based views: employees see their time tracking and vacation balance, project managers see budget consumption and team assignments, department heads see cost analysis and due invoices, executives see company-wide profitability and year-end planning tools. Key capabilities include German labor law compliant time tracking (automatic break enforcement), traffic-light project status indicators, detailed cost-per-hour calculations per employee, invoice management with DATEV tax office integration, visual vacation planning across locations, and daily reports that automatically chain together ("What did you do today? What's planned for tomorrow?"). The platform evolved beyond a client project into promonco - now twiceD's own SaaS product.

The Result

Promonco now serves as a unified command center for service-oriented businesses. Time tracking, project costing, invoicing, HR management, and financial reporting live in one place - no more switching between tools or manual data reconciliation. The platform supports multi-location companies with location-specific holiday calendars, external contractors alongside internal employees, and flexible permission systems. Integration options include Active Directory/LDAP for single sign-on, DATEV exports for tax offices, and a fully documented API for custom connections. What started as a legacy migration is now commercially available and continues to evolve based on real-world usage from engineering firms, consultancies, and service providers.
