moldMIND II Control Interface

The Challenge

Our client PLC2 Design GmbH was engaged by Otto Männer GmbH (now part of Barnes Molding Solutions), a leading manufacturer of hot runner systems and injection molds, to develop moldMIND II - the digital cockpit for injection molds. This innovative sensor technology monitors critical parameters like temperature, pressure, and cycle times directly inside the mold. PLC2 Design provided the embedded Linux operating system and hardware platform, while Otto Männer defined the requirements and integrated the system into their mold technology. The project needed a professional user interface that would allow operators to configure sensors, visualize real-time data, analyze production history, and manage the system across desktop and mobile platforms via Bluetooth LE connectivity.

Our Solution

Working with PLC2 Design GmbH, we created the complete user interface for moldMIND II using Angular and TypeScript. The desktop application was built with Electron for cross-platform compatibility (Windows, macOS, Linux), while mobile support was achieved through responsive design and Bluetooth LE integration. We implemented real-time data visualization using D3.js and Chart.js for temperature curves, cycle time analysis, and production statistics. The interface allows operators to configure sensor parameters, monitor live production data, analyze historical trends, and export reports - all through an intuitive, industrial-grade UI designed for shop floor use.

The Result

The moldMIND II interface successfully bridges the gap between sophisticated sensor hardware and production floor operators. The cross-platform solution enables monitoring from desktop workstations or mobile devices via Bluetooth LE, giving operators flexibility in how they interact with the system. The real-time visualization and historical analysis features help manufacturers optimize injection molding processes, reduce scrap rates, and improve overall production efficiency.
