baseCON Smart Home & Assisted Living System

The Challenge

KUNDO Home Solutions GmbH, a subsidiary of KUNDO xT GmbH, needed a comprehensive residential assistance system that could control smart home devices while being simple enough for elderly users. The system had to integrate Z-Wave devices, provide emergency assistance features, and protect resident privacy.

Our Solution

As external software consultants, we supported the development of two Z-Wave certified devices: the baseCON home central and a 4-button companion device. The baseCON hub runs on embedded Linux and controls lights, curtains, heaters, and security through Z-Wave and HomeMatic protocols. The 4-button device features fully configurable buttons for personalized actions—whether "leaving home", "take medication", "drink water", or "close window". The solution includes a mobile app and web interface built with Angular, with backend services in Java/OSGi communicating via MQTT.

The Result

Both devices achieved Z-Wave certification and completed successful field tests with housing cooperatives. The system provides enhanced safety and comfort for elderly residents while protecting their privacy. The fully configurable button interface enables non-technical users to control their entire home environment with personalized actions.
